The skill of acupuncturists lies in their ability to make a traditional diagnosis from what is often a complex pattern of disharmony. An initial comprehensive assessment of your health and lifestyle will take place on your first visit and will take approximately one to one and a half hours.
The acupuncturist may also use various physical examinations such as looking at your tongue and its colour, shape and coating, and also check the pulse on both wrists and may also press on various acupuncture points around the body to check for tenderness and pain.
The cost for this is £60 and includes the first treatment. Thereafter the treatments are 45 minutes at a cost of £45.
Acupuncture needles are sterile and disposable and have very fine gauges. They may create a sensation such as tingling or drawing. Some treatments may utilise other techniques including electro-acupuncture, moxibustion or cupping (see FAQ page for further information on these techniques).
Acupuncturists take a holistic approach (looking at the body as a whole) to target the main symptom so you may find that if you suffer with a headache for instance, the acupuncturist will insert needles into your hand or foot to alleviate the problem.
